Community Action Partnership of Lake County’s 14th Anti-Poverty 5K Walk is a family-friendly event open to all ages to raise awareness and funding for our services and programs. The day will begin with a Welcome by the CEO, then participants will enjoy a morning of walking through the surrounding.

The day will begin with a Welcome by the CEO, then participants will enjoy a morning of walking through the surrounding.

  • Pick-up and drop-off at CAPOLC main office, 2424 Washington St., Waukegan. 

LOCATION START/END: CAP Catering Banquets & Dining on Genesee, 206 N. Genesee St., Waukegan

CHECK-IN/REGISTER: 8:30-9:30am/Registration closes 30 minutes prior to walk, Welcome begins at 9:30am.

5K ROUTE: Go North from on Genesee St. toward Cory Ave., turn right onto Cory Ave., turn left on N. Sheridan Rd. going North toward Greenwood Ave., turn left on Greenwood Ave. going West toward North Ave., turn left on North Ave. going South toward Julian St., turn left on Julian St. going East toward N. Genesee St. then go South on Genesee St. headed back to start/end location. (see map on other side)

This year, proceeds will support CAP of Lake County’s Hot Meals Delivery Program for Seniors living in low-income housing.

  • American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Funding for the Hot Meals for Seniors program ended April 2023. We need funding to continue this pandemic recovery program. 
  • Purchase of a temperature-controlled truck to transport hot and cold meals to add additional residences.

FUNDRAISING FOR WALKERS: Tell people why you are supporting CAP of Lake County and ask for their support. Request Pledge Forms to collect donations, email  lisa.hayes@caplakecounty.org. Donations collected when you check-in. All contributions tax-deductible. The Top 25 fundraisers will be posted on our website.

AGREEMENT REGARDING RISK OF INJURY AND RELEASE—RELEASE AND WAIVER OF ALL CLAIMS

I hereby apply to participate in the Community Action Partnership of Lake County 14th Anti-Poverty 2023 that will begin at 206 N. Genesee Street, Waukegan IL 60085 on Saturday, May 6, 2023.

I understand that participating in the Walk will expose me to above normal risks of harms.  These risks include uneven grounds, weather elements, vehicles, collisions with other participants or unforeseen spectators or objects that may be along the route.

I represent that I have no health or physical problems that will interfere with my participation in the Walk. I agree that I am responsible for my own safety.

I hereby assume all risks associated with my attendance and participation in the Walk.  I understand that I am solely responsible for any injuries which may occur to me as a result   of my participation in the Walk and I specifically waive my right to bring litigation against the sponsors and specifically release any right which I have to assert a negligence claim against the Walk sponsors, their agents or representatives. 

I hereby fully and forever release, discharge, and agree not to sue Community Action Partnership of Lake County, Community Action Foundation of Northern Illinois, Local Walk Organizers, Local Business Sponsors, Site Owners, any other sponsors (hereafter called “Walk Sponsors”) their officers, directors, agents, employees, representatives, and successors for any and all claims, causes of action or liability for any injury, loss or damage sustained or incurred by me arising out of or in any way associated with my attendance at or participation in the Walk, including all claims, causes or action or liability arising out of the negligence of Walk Sponsors, their agents or representatives.

I grant full permission for organizers to use photographs, video and quotations from me in legitimate accounts and promotions of this event.

I agree to indemnify and hold harmless Walk sponsors, their agents or representatives from any loss, damage or expense sustained or incurred by them arising from any such claims, cause of action or liability, whether brought to me, anyone acting on my behalf, or by anyone else because of conduct attributed to me.

I agree that this agreement shall be construed and interpreted according to the law of the State of Illinois.

I have read the above items of the Release and Waiver, understand them, agree to abide by them, and herby acknowledge that I have read and understand this Release & Waiver.  Each family member must sign a separate form to participate. 

Note: If you are under 18 years old, you must have a parent or guardian sign the Release and Waiver and present it at check-in.  Request form by email, lisa.hayes@caplakecounty.org

Parking available: Street or Garage (Garage parking: 2 minute walk)

  • Street parking, available on Genesee St. Metered parking is $.50 per hour before 5:00 pm. No charge after 5:00 pm.
  • Covered Garage Parking, available at Waukegan Lot C, 225 N County St for $1.00 per hour. Maximum $5.00 per day.

All parking options accept the following methods of payment via Smart City Pay Stations: coin, credit/debit card, or digital wallet payment such as Apple or Google Pay. More information about the Smart City pay stations is available here: https://smartcity.ipsgroup.com/waukegan-il/#faq
